Cans Around the Oval 2008

Cans Around the Oval is a Colorado State University tradition, where students, faculty, and staff partner with community members, local media, and area businesses to raise awareness about the facts surrounding the issue of hunger, as well as raise food and monetary donations. This event is Larimer County's largest one-day food drive, and is the largest food donation event for the Food Bank all year.  With its variety  of programs, the Food Bank of Larimer County fights hunger in our own community every day.  By joining the cans team through donating cans, collecting canned food, or even contributing what you can financially, you are making a difference in the lives of thousands of Larimer County residents.  For an in depth perspective of the amazing impact of Cans Around the Oval, take a look at this year’s Cans Review, appearing below.

Why should we support the Food Bank?

Annually, the Food Bank for Larimer County distributes over 5.6 million pounds of food to over 50,000 residents.  This year, the Food Bank has seen an increase of participants up from an average of 8,000 residents per month to 10,000 residents per month.  The need is increasing dramatically.

Here are some testimonials from actual Food Bank clients:

"It helps my grandma because she doesn't have much money."

"I have a child who just completed chemotherapy for cancer. Our two year ordeal has caused us to take time off from work."

"After I pay the bills there is nothing left over to buy food."

"We were literally starving. We went to the Food Bank and were treated with respect."
